R@M Web Design!!

There is so much computer terminology today that sometimes it can be hard to understand without some type of computer experience. The following is a brief outline of the terms you will find most commonly used. These terms are necessary in understanding your requirements and benefits of the Web. These are the fundamentals of the Internet. Understanding these fundamentals will become your guide to online status and web site hosting.

There are some simple steps that can be described for you in layman’s terms to help you get started on your way to an online presence for your company.

The first step must begin at choosing a service provider and e-mail address (if you do not already have one). This service is how you will access the Internet. Most service providers provide numerous e-mail accounts for your use. We have provided a small list with potential service providers based on what we have found to be affordable and reasonable. This is just a brief sample of the hundreds of providers possible. These options range from dial-up (most commonly used), DSL, and Cable.

Once you choose a service provider, your secondary goal will need to be to find a web host to host your site. “Web Hosting” confuses many people. However it is not that complicated. Let me give you an alternate yet similar explanation to help you understand. Your company/business has a physical street address. The same analogy is used for web sites. Your site will consist of digital data in the form of web pages, images etc., just as a street has numerous houses differentiated by house numbers.

The files for your web site have to reside on a computer (street) known as a web server. Essentially making it the street your house resides on. This web server is connected to the Internet where the world can access it. The domain name of the server becomes your house number as described above. Just as you rent office or home space, you also rent server space for your web site from a hosting company or agent. We have included a table of some of these companies defining brief explanations of the services they offer. Without a host (the person you rent space from) you cannot have your site (house) on the web (street).

Those are the two essential steps to begin your road to the Web. We can assist you in completing these steps if necessary. Once those steps are made, you will then have a place to call home on the web for your company.

Once those steps are completed, you can let us go to work and show you how the web will then begin to work for you.
