Oriental Rug and Kilim Care

How To Use:

1) Do not keep your carpet always in the same direction. Change the direction of the carpet which lies on the floor at least twice a year so the carpet will age from all directions equally.
2) Be sure that the legs of furniture which rest on your carpet are not too sharply pointed. If they must lie on your carpet, put a wooden piece between the legs and the carpet, so that the legs will not touch and damage your carpet.
3) If there is any release of the threads or if the knits are united at the top or at the sides of the carpet, get it reparied at once.
4) Process your carpet with naphtaline or keep it ventilated in the open air if you don't want to lay it down.
5) Lay your carpet upside down and use it in this way for several days each year in order to release the dust and dirt that has collected at the bottom of your carpet. Afterwards, vaccuum your carpet.
6) Brush or sweep your carpet by hard pointed sweeper at least once a year.

How To Clean:

1) Use the vaccuum cleaner following the same direction towards which the pile of the carpet is laid.
2) There is no need to beat the carpet by wooden or metal beater, if it is cleaned by vaccuum cleaner regularly.
3) The carpet can be cleaned by wiping the pile with snow, where there is snow fall.
4) The carpet should be cleaned from the top surface with a piece of cotton cloth, which was dipped in a mixture of fresh water, soap and a little quantity of white vinegar at least once a year.
5) In regards to washing the carpet completely: get fresh water in a basin, add soft detergent or soap salt and a little quantity of vinegar and rinse the carpet with a cloth which absorbs the liquid quickly, then get a piece of dry cotton cloth and have it absorb the water collected on the curface as soon as possible. Then lie it down on a smooth surface in order to dry it.

Removing Specific Stains

An Alcoholic Drink
Use warm water to gently soak the affected area, and 90% alcohol to clean it.
Blood
Refrain from using hot water. Take a damp sponge to the stain first, and then wipe with cold salty water. If the stain persists, try rubbing it with a pure white wine. If the stain still persists once the carpet is dry, brush it with a mixture of water and a small amount of ammonia.
Chocolate
Use a sponge or rag dipped in ammonia to remove the stain.
Egg
Scrub with a mixture of water and ammonia, taking care never to use hot water. If this fails, try a mixture of alcohol and water.
Fruit
Use a combination of 1 part ammonia and 3 parts white vinegar or lemon juice to remove the stain. Either a sponge or a rag will do.
Ink
Wipe with a mixture of water, soap, and alcohol. Try to protect the rest of the carpet from the dripping of the cleaning agent.
Mud
If still wet, allow to dry well and then vaccuum clean the stain.
Perfumes and Cosmetics
Wipe thoroughly with alcohol.
Pet Urine
Wipe the stain with a sponge while it is still damp. Then leave it to dry. Afterwards, clean with white wine vinegar. If this fails to remove the stain, try a combination of 1 part ammonia and 3 parts alcohol to wipe the stain.
Red Wine
Clean with pure white wine and afterwards clean with water.
Sweets
Gently clean with warm water.

Removing Stains
General Stains
Immediately wash with soft soap and rinse with clean water, then hang over a railing or bannister to dry. The damp air is one of the worst conditions for a carpet. Don't lie on the floor until it is almost completely dried. When rubbing the carpet with soap, be careful not to rub the carpet knots in the wrong direction. Also, try not to wet the whole carpet at once.
