Chick Flicks, an ezine that fills a void in publishing. We're looking for well-written stories and essays that are moody, dark, real, gritty. Stories about internal conflict juxtaposed against external demands, about real life people coming to terms--good or bad--with themselves and their choices. You don't have to be a woman to submit to Chick Flicks; your characters need not even be women. We want emotion and honesty and engaging journeys from point A to point B and beyond. Send us pieces with less-spoken, but common universal truths. Make us laugh, make us cry, make us hurt in the deepest, darkest parts of our souls, but most of all, be honest, raw, real. Check out some Chick Flicks Flavas

Ignore these guidelines at your own risk! Noncompliant submissions will be deleted without notification. We do not accept poetry.

Fiction:

2000 words or less. Some exceptions may be made, but please send a query letter first to O'Hare, Taylor Publications for stories over our word limit. There will be no exceptions unless queried first. We mostly publish literary works but will accept any genre, including romance and erotica, as long as we're moved by the writing.

Essays:

2000 words or less. Some exceptions may be made, but please send a query letter first to O'Hare, Taylor Publications for pieces over our word limit. There will be no exceptions unless queried first. We are interested in personal essays, memoir, creative nonfiction, and articles. As in the case of fiction, we are looking to be moved, enlightened, or educated.

Finally:

As a final note about the content we want to publish, think eclectic creativity. We admire unusual form and execution. If in doubt, please, give us a try.

Please single space your work, but double space between paragraphs. No indents or tabs.

Attach your work as a word.doc file or an RTF and mail to chickflicksezine@yahoo.com. ATTENTION--please do not send your work pasted into the body of an email because some of the pieces become garbled or oddly formatted when imbedded in an email.

Chick Flicks is a paying market. Currently, we pay ten american dollars upon publication for the top two stories of each issue. The selections are made on a rotating basis meaning our two editors alternate choosing per issue. You must have a PayPal account in order to receive payment. Additionally, each writer accepted into Chick Flicks is eligible to be our Feature Writer in a future issue whether or not they were selected for payment for the issue in which they were published. Feature writers will receive a Chick Flicks journal from our store as well as an extended bio, with links, to promote their work. There is no payment for the feature writer aside from the gift as it is a position of honor and respect. NOTE: Donations made to Chick Flicks will increase our ability to eventually pay all of our contributors. Click the Make a Donation button at the bottom of this page to support Chick Flicks and the writers who make this publication great. Eventually, we will gather the best of each issue and publish an e-book or print anthology for which our writers would receive some compensation.

Rights:

We seek one-time publishing rights and reserve the right for future inclusion in any print or e-book publication. All rights revert to the writer.
