When our house burned to the ground in 1951
Our family lost Bobby, a dear brother and son
God sustained us thru'  deep pain and sorrows
To regain  faith anew for other tomorrows.

Bobby came to us in a vision one night,
The bedroom  streamed brightly with radiant light..
He held  my sister Bonnie's  hand with his to say,
"I won't be here long ...understand,  I  can't stay."

He said, "don't cry for me, Bonnie, and ne'er fear,
For I live now in heaven where there are no tears.
There are streets of pure gold in this sunny place
And  I play with children of every faith and race."

He appeared to me lastly, draped in a misty haze;
While I was entranced by the smile on his face,
Cherubs skipped to dance with him on a spiral trail,
In a mossy green meadow near a bridge with rails.

E'en tho' he didn't give me his final goodbyes
He left with his image that so opened my eyes
And if he had lingered by the side of my bed
These are the words I wished I had said..

"Someday my brother, in the sweet by and by,"
We 'll meet again with a host of angels in the sky.
They'll enfold us inside their wings of soft feather
And we'll hold on tight...as we glide close together.
Beside each other.. we'll  ride thru' Heaven's portal,
To greet our dear Lord, the Holy Ghost ... immortal!"

First written in 1984 and revised May 21, 2003.
The summer before Bobby died, he
expressed liking the song,
"In the Sweet By and By"
that he learned in his Sunday School
Class.  His teacher that day had
talked about Heaven.  Bobby
mentioned to us later, "he'd love to
go there but on second thought, he
didn't want to leave Mommy."

He had a fascination  for angels
and kept our mother busy drawing
them for him. He left this earth
when he was only five years old.
I often think of him as an
 Angel child of light.
