Gavest thou the goodly wings...
which leaveth her eggs in the earth...
Job 39: 13-14

flowering crab tree

Spring harbors flowered trees of deep rose
Oft' in early May... winds freeze as it  blows.
Robins in arbors begin to lay their blue eggs
Blossoms scatter petals to christen new babes
 Families grow fatter and demand more feed,
Worms are devoured in preference to seed.

Alas, one robin did not build her warm nest
Leaving  embryo unborn.. lying cold in the ground
It was not the right time and place to give birth
Nor to copy friends style to feather the earth;
Sunday, ere' Mother's Day her egg was found
By the wood pile in snow... it laid there to rest.
